Judith “Judy” Eva Eleanor (Lyytikainen) Hill, age 85, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, at the Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Cedarville, Michigan, on January 8, 2024. She was born on June 5, 1938, in Allouez Township, (Keweenaw County) Michigan, to Tauno and Helen (Koivu) Lyytikainen.

Judy graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit, Michigan. She met Michael “Mike” Hill, and they married on October 31, 1959, in Detroit. They raised their three boys in Sault St. Marie. After retiring from War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Mike and Judy moved to Mike’s childhood home in Kearsarge, Michigan, where they enjoyed their summers going to various community gatherings throughout the Copper country and dancing on Saturday nights at the local polka. They would also spend much of their summer hosting family and friends at the entire family’s favorite vacation spot, the family camp at Lac La Belle. They would snowbird south every year, spending time glamping throughout the campgrounds of the Southwest and eventually enjoying a condo at Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Judy loved gardening, dancing, music and creating artwork such as looming, knitting, needlepoint, and beading. She was good at anything she did with her hands.

We all feel that now she is reunited with Mike, the love of her life, and they are catching up on their dancing.

Full of love and generosity, Judy and Mike spent their lives loving their sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her sons, Dennis (Julie) Hill, Timothy (Jodi) Hill, and Martin Hill; grandchildren, Eric (Shalyn) Hill and Courtney (DJ) Welton, Jacob (Phatchari), J’aime (Kevin), Jared, Jeannee’ and Justin Hill, Jaeden Hill; great-grandchildren, Bazil, Zaya, Tynzley, and Crozby Hill, Helen and Darlene Hill; brother, Roy (Diane) Lyytikainen; sister-in-law, Claire (Paul) Sullivan. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Tauno and Helen; husband, Mike; brother, Irving Lyytikainen; sisters, Sandra Lanto and Arlene Mikolowski.

There will be a Celebration of Life in the Spring of 2024.

Final Resting Place will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet, Michigan.
