Kyle McWilliams, age 37, passed away at home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on November 25th, 2022. Kyle was born June 2, 1985, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

After graduating from Northview High School, Kyle joined the Navy serving as a Fire Controlman on the USS Boxer where he traveled around the world. After his service, Kyle graduated from Lake Superior State University with a bachelor's Degree in Fire Science and Engineering Technology.

Kyle was an excellent cook who loved experimenting and sharing his flavorful creations with friends and family. Kyle was an avid outdoorsman and considered the Upper Peninsula his home. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, and especially taking his Jeep on off road adventures. His favorite time of year was autumn in the UP, where he loved to take drives around Lake Superior, up to Tahquamenon Falls and Neebish Island. His constant companion on all adventures was his Siberian Husky, Sakari.

Kyle is survived by his mother Nancy (Dan) Gowdy, father Donald McWilliams, sister Brynley Potgeter and niece Maze Chalmers. Kyle will be remembered by many aunts and uncles including Kim Ysseldyke, Jayne Johnson, and Karen & Robert Dodd. Kyle was blessed with the admiration and respect of his cousins, Brad & TJ Ysseldyke, Samantha, Mitchel, & Zachary Johnson, Amber VanPortfliet, and Brianna Dodd, who will remember him as the life of any party. The family fondly remembers numerous vacations with Kyle to Florida.

Kyle was preceded in death by his grandparents Suzanne Foley, James Meinke, and Willis & Patricia McWilliams.

Private memorial services will be held in the spring on Neebish Island and in Grand Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Kyle McWilliams’ name to Chippewa County Community Foundation (511 Ashmun St. Suite 202, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783). Kyle was a good man who was loved by many. He is greatly missed.
