Obituary For Larry Jay Shearer

Larry Jay Shearer, 75, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away on December 23, 2023 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born July 15, 1948 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Lyle and Elizabeth Shearer.

Larry was well respected and an active member of the community. Master Locksmith was his profession and he was the proud owner of Larry's Lock and Key in Battle Creek, Michigan from 1982 to 1986. He then relocated his business to Sault Ste. Marie when his wife accepted a position with the Family Independence Agency. He continued to serve the community until his retirement in 2012. Larry trained a total of three locksmiths and two with added experience, started their own lock business. Larry's expertise and dedication made him a trusted figure in the locksmith business.

Outside of work, Larry attended Grace Baptist Church where he worshipped and had fellowship with fellow believers. There he helped with the food bank, building maintenance and he and his wife Sharon conducted children's church together. He attended there for many years. Larry was also an active member of the Chippewa County Shooting Association where he helped with the day for youths, cooked meals for their meetings, and whatever else he could do to help. He loved shooting but had to quit it because of his declining eyesight.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Sue Shearer, and his sons, Loren Jay Shearer and Dewey Allen Shearer. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lyle Joy and Elizabeth Eileene Shearer and sister Sandra Mikolajczyk preceded him.

A graveside burial is being held on Thursday, October 17th, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to provide an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects. The cemetery is at 6 mile and Mackinac Trail. Go in the first entrance on Mackinac Trail and the road encompasses an open area where the funeral service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Salvation Army in his name. Contributions to this organization would show Larry's generous spirit and commitment to those in need in his community.
