Obituary For Lloyd Garrison Ketchum

Lloyd Garrison Ketchum, age 82, died peacefully on August 19, 2024, in Gaylord, Michigan. He was born on December 20, 1941, in Ontonagon, Michigan, to Charles & Eva Ketchum.

Lloyd was a cherished member of the Brimley community where he spent most of his life. He honorably served in the United States Navy, dedicating years of service to his country. After his military service, he established and operated Lloyd’s Machine Shop, where he was well-respected as a skilled machinist. His work was not only a profession but a passion, reflected in the precision and care he brought to every project.

Lloyd was a man of many interests, he was renowned for his blueberry picking, a hobby that he enjoyed in his secret spots. These outings often concluded with him baking his famous blueberry muffins, a treat greatly cherished by family and friends. Lloyd also found joy in long drives in his truck or jeep, exploring new landscapes and revisiting favorite places. In wintertime, he loved making snowbanks for his daughter and grandchildren to slide down, he was a family man through and through. Often, he would be seen feeding the deer in his backyard or making ice cream sundaes with sprinkles, much to the delight of his daughter and grandchildren. Also, can’t forget his black cat Sam 2 that became his best friend after starting out as a stray. Lloyd’s life was marked by his kindness and readiness to help anyone in need, traits that endeared him to many.

Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Serina Carrick; grandchildren, Katelin (Dustin) McDonald, Julianna (Damien) Carrick, Grayson Cameron, and Chloe Cameron; great grandsons, Arvo & Ashton; sister, MaryKay Mackey; brother, Chuck (JoAnn) Ketchum; and nephews, Sam (Debbie) Ketchum and Bradley Joe Ketchum; and niece, Jamie Mackey.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eva.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
