Obituary For Nancy Kaye LaFerier
Nancy Kaye LaFerier passed peacefully on December 10, 2023, at the Evergreen Living Center in St. Ignace, Michigan. In her 72 years, she touched the hearts of countless individuals.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Gary LaFerier at the young age of 16. After Gary's passing, Nancy made a life-changing decision to relocate to Mackinac Island in 1996, where she found solace, friendship, and a true sense of community as a year-round resident. In 2012, she moved to St. Ignace, where she left an indelible mark on the community. Ever the vivacious, friendly, compassionate, and kind soul, Nancy's presence brightened the lives of those around her, including devoting her time to the Mackinac County Victim Service Unit.
In every sense of the word, Nancy was a fighter. Despite the most challenging days of her battle with ALS, she maintained her sense of humor. Even when words failed her, she happily greeted visitors with her signature salute.
She is survived by her son, Tony (Virginia) LaFerier of Lansing, Michigan, her daughter, Aimee (Michael James) Williford of St. Ignace; grandson, Hunter; two great-grandchildren, and her adored grand dog, Princess. Her love extended far and wide, embracing numerous cherished friends and family members.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Evergreen for making Nancy feel at home, loved, and cared for during her time there. They would also like to thank the Mackinac Island and St. Ignace communities for their outpouring of love and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 21st at 1 PM at Little Bear Arena in St. Ignace with a luncheon to follow. Please join us in celebrating Nancy's remarkable life together. Let us remember and honor the beautiful soul who enriched our lives with her love and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Evergreen Living Center to support the activities Nancy enjoyed or to the Mackinac Animal Shelter, to continue her passion for caring for animals.
