Obituary For Philip "Phooda" Duane Parish
Philip “Phooda” Duane Parish, age 76, of Brimley, Michigan, died at My Michigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on December 2, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1947, in Bay Mills, Michigan, to Clayton and Leila (Lufkins) Parish.
Phooda grew up in Bay Mills Indian Community and graduated from Brimley High School in 1966 where he later joined the United States Army. After serving, he became the welding teacher at Sault High School for many years. Phooda later joined the Bay Mills Police Department as an Officer and then moved on to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Phooda was a Bay Mills Tribal Elder and a member of the St. Kateri Catholic church in Brimley. He always had a strong commitment to public service.
Phooda found enjoyment in playing softball, hunting, fishing, welding gambling, and growing his gun collection. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an amazing father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be missed dearly.
Philip is survived by his daughter, Shianne (Matt) Bathey of Brimley; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary Parish, Dennis Parish, L. John Lufkins, and Clinton Parish, all of Brimley.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Leila; sisters, Luella Raymond, Shirley Kincheloe; and brothers, Gordon Parish, and Allen Parish.
There will be no services held at this time.
