Obituary For Robert "Bob" Wallace Smith

Robert “Bob” Wallace Smith, age 79, of Cedarville, Michigan, died at Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Cedarville, on July 31, 2024. He was born on November 18, 1944, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Wallace Robert and Florence Smith.

Bob grew up in Cedarville and graduated from Cedarville High School. He attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, before working at Soo Savings Bank for ten years. He met Sharon Ann (Simmons) Slater, and they married on January 13, 1968, at the First Union Church in Cedarville. In 1980, he founded Smith and Griffin Real Estate and co-owned it for over twenty-five years. In the 1990s, he bought Waterlawn Cottages, which is still operating today.

Bob served as a member of the First Union Church in Cedarville, the Board of Directors of Cedar Cove Assisted Living, the Board of Directors of Mackinac Straits Hospital, the Beautification Committee of Les Cheneaux, Michigan, the Cedarville Sports Booster Club, the Cedarville Lions Club, the Islands Wildlife Committee, Clark Township Trustee, and the Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show for over twenty years.

Bob had a passion for antiquing and shopping. He loved visiting Mackinac Island, Michigan, listening to Elvis the “King,” boating, and watercolor painting.

Bob is survived by his son, Fred (Kerri) Smith of Hessel, Michigan; daughters, Sue Ann (Jason) Bowlby of Cedarville and Deborah (Mike) Murray of Cedarville; grandchildren, Katie (Peter) Duman and Theodore “Ted” (Stephanie) Bowlby; great-grandchildren, Jaxxen Hansen, Levi Duman, and Dottie Duman; nieces, Jean (Darrel) Sanderson, and Cami Hubbert; and nephews, Brian Alcorn and Chris McKee.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; parents, Wallace and Florence; sisters, Betty Ann (Wes) Alcorn and Betty McKee; and niece, Carol Bonnor.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a Funeral Service following at 5:00 PM, at the First Union Church, 179 E. Hodeck, Cedarville, MI 49719. A private Burial will be held for the family.

The Final Resting Place will be at the Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville, Michigan.

    My prayers go out to Bob family. I met Bob in 1992 in Florida, became friend with him and Sharon for years. In 1993 I purchase Bob condo on Honeymoon Island, Bob was a great man , one of a kind. Bob will be missed.
