Obituary For Scott James Farner

Scott James Farner, age 66, of Moran, Michigan, died on April 1, 2025, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on December 6, 1958, in Flint, Michigan, to Guerdon and Dorothy (Henson) Farner.

After graduation, Scott worked various jobs before pursuing a career in the restaurant industry. In the 1980’s, he bought and operated Torreno’s Pizza for eight years, where he built many lasting memories with customers and colleagues. In the early 1990’s, Scott moved to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he worked as the manager of Big Boy. He met Kathryn “Kate” McWilliams and the two were married on April 21, 2001. Later, Scott began driving trucks, a profession he dedicated himself to for the next 25 years. His hard work and safety on the road earned him the prestigious Million Miles of Safe Driving award.

Scott was an avid fisherman who loved spending time on Brevort Lake, taking his boat out to enjoy the serenity of the water. While he had an appreciation for gardening, he would often joke that he couldn’t quite get anything to grow just right. Though he was a private person, Scott was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, a testament to his kind and giving nature.

Scott is survived by his wife, Kate; sons, Seth (Jessica) Farner, Andrew Lorenz, Robert Lorenz and Charles Lorenz; grandchildren, Farrah Lorenz, Ireland Lorenz and Gracen Lorenz; sisters, Korel Farner and Diedre Stogstill; and brother, Johnny Stogstill.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Guerdon and Dorothy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
