Obituaries

Shirley Jean Brosco, age 95, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away at Ball Hospice House on October 18, 2024. She was born July 21, 1929, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to Ed and Mae Sparks.

Shirley attended Sault Area High School and graduated with the class of 1947. On April 18, 1949, she married Jack Brosco at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They made their home on M-129 in Soo. Jack proceeded Shirley in death on December 23, 1993.

Shirley was a very outgoing social person and was happiest doing things with family and friends. She was an avid reader and liked doing puzzle books and watching game shows on tv. In her younger years she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, playing cards, and visiting the local casino.

Shirley worked for many years as a telephone operator at Michigan Bell Telephone and then at the Best Western Motel. She was a member of Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Susan (Henry) Bourque; son, Ted; grandchildren, Carley (Tom) Ball and Joe Bourque; great-granddaughter, Linden Bourque; brother, John (Isabelle) Sparks; sisters, Lorraine (Richard) Brown and Lorretta (Robert) McCormick.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents, Edward and Viola Sparks; brothers, Edward, William and Donald Sparks; and son-in-law, Henry Bourque.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday October 22, 2024, at Family Life Funeral Home, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The final resting place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
