William Lorne Mawhinney, age 85, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on April 24, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center Sault. He was born on January 19, 1939, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Alvin and Mary (White) Mawhinney.

William is survived by his fiancé, Betty Smart; son, Michael (Cheryl) Mawhinney; daughter, Ida (Darrell) Austin; stepchildren, Dorothy (Brandon) Wychopan, Bonnie (Bill) Harrison, Bruce (Carol) Smart; nieces, Meri (Brian) Hancock and Jan Chambers; nephew, Dan Hancock; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Potter) Mawhinney; and sisters, Doris Baldwin and Faye Hancock.

A Celebration of Life will be held this summer, with the time and date to be announced.
