OTSEGO COUNTY, MICH. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Seventh District Special Investigations
Section (SIS) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sparr near Wilkinson Road in
Dover Township early Saturday morning.
The preliminary investigation indicates that on August 22, at approximately 1:35 a.m., troopers from the
MSP Gaylord Post conducted a traffic stop on S. Otsego Avenue near Seventh Street. The driver fled the
scene, and the vehicle was later located by a deputy from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, who
initiated a pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the suspect hit an MSP patrol car and then struck a tree. After the crash, the
officer-involved shooting occurred with the Deputy. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deputy was not injured.
The suspect has been identified as a 29-year-old Gaylord man.
The MSP Bridgeport Crime Lab responded to process the scene.
This incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
